The Hunger Games (book review)

Despite its violence, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins has a magnetic appeal to girls that we just can’t explain. It’s a fresh look at a female main character going off and being a strong (and strong-willed) teen. If you need a break from sappy (paranormal) romances, give this one a shot.

The book is a cross between Lord of the Flies and the Running Man – a battle royale of teens randomly chosen from across the 12 districts of Panem (formerly the United States). These teens, one boy and one girl from each district, must then fight to the death in a televised reality show that the entire country must watch. Lethal punishment awaits anyone who breaks the rules, or even thinks about it. How can Katniss, the starving hero of our story, stand a chance?

The movie is set to be released on March 23, 2012. We want to be excited, but the trailer doesn’t reveal much. In fact, it looks a little amateur-ish.

What do you think?

This book is recommended!  (9 out of 10)

I really enjoyed the first book. The second one was pretty good, too, but the third one… yikes!
